You Said Women?
By Lucie Carmen Gregoire
You said woman? Touches on the hyper-sexualized representation of the woman’s body in the public environment and addresses pornography as well as stripping as marketing techniques. This feminist commentary is heavily charged with sexual reference – as is the media – and explores the underlying meanings of sexualized images of women.
In an upcoming sequel to this performance sexual stereotypes of femininity and sexuality will be thrown away, the objectified sexual body will become a contagiously energized woman’s body, providing alternative images to those prevalent in the media.
Original concept, choreography & performance: Lucie Carmen Gregoire
Original score: Samuel Laflamme in collaboration with Dominick Lague
Video editing: Melanie Ladouceur
Costume design: Melanie Turcotte
Toronto Aerial Dance Theatre
Toronto Aerial Dance Theatre bridges the gap between the arts of circus and dance,
to transcend gravity and make use of a greater canvas.
Comfortable Abyss looks at the world in these times of war and terrorism. The dancer will show the frenzy of fear and the ways people seek comfort and protection from a higher power than world leaders, using rituals and religion in the hope they will be extracted from the chaos and brought to a place of solace.
La Onda de Deseo examines the complexity of desire. The dancer expresses raw passion, burning tension and the gratification of living in the moment. The performer of the straps reflects the other side, how one can become restricted by obsession, a slave to its every whim.
Precipice involving the silks, depicts the stages of a relationship between lovers, from early discoveries to the inevitable denouement. While one is reaching out for something more, the other struggles, with both the desire to hold on and the need to let go.
Naomi Maklem
“Unique” - Art and Dance combined into a visual tapestry. Naomi Macklem presents digital images of her watercolour paintings along with her own improvisational dance style.
Belladonna and The Awakening
Belladonna is a powerful voice for change in the global community. Her versatile dynamic enables listeners to flow smoothly through hip tracks inspired by legends of rock, soul, jazz and folk, while maintaining a consistent sense of purpose and intensity.
The Awakening is the method behind the madness – the melody behind the mojo. These are people engaged in a struggle for liberation from ignorance and suffering.
Of course there will be dancers… who do you think?
