Artists’ Play's The Reservation
Named a Globe & Mail  BEST BET at The Fringe

-- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- May 21, 2008 --

What if the love child of Peter Sellers,Lily Tomlin and Bob Fosse created a manic story about who we are,and who we could be?

The Reservation

New dance-theatre by Elizabeth Dawn Snell

Filet for thought—have you ever questioned your existence? Gone about your daily routine wishing you were elsewhere? Maybe taken refuge in fantasy? Been neurotically happy? Or just plain neurotic?

Well, why not make a reservation with Artists’ Play, and escape into an outrageous surreal landscape of dancing waiters, guests who play pranks, travelling coat racks, and chairs with no seats.
This quirky, contemporary dance-theatre production is directed and served up with hot sauce by Elizabeth Dawn Snell, artistic director of Artists’ Play and director of the infectious delirium of The Reservation. Using gesture, dramatic facial expression, and dance forms including contact, jazz, contemporary, and Artists’ Play’s signature theatrical style, The Reservation tells a story about who people are, and who they could be: the powerful potential within each of us.
Elizabeth Dawn Snell has shown work at the Festival of Independent Dance Artists (fFida),Atlantic Fringe Festival, Squiggfest, and has,for the past 6 years, produced the show Artists’ Play...a Cabaret! She has performed with Corpus,Parahumans Dance Theatre, and the International Tango Festival, and has choreographed musicals with the likes of Artists Against War and Stage Hanna. Having trained at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Grant MacEwan and The Banff Centre of the Arts, she currently teaches at StudioElevenTwelve where she is one of the founding collective members.

The Reservation’s original score is by Jason Vanstone, musician, dancer, actor and designer.Snell and Vanstone are a “dynamic couple...[with] positive energy and great technique...solid choreography...”— Hanna Herald.

Anyone who has been out to dinner, worked as a waiter,or cared about someone who has, will be caught up in this hilarious, moving, and bitingly strange world where people do everything they ever wanted to do in a restau-
rant.

The Reservation is part of the first incarnation of dance initiatives at The Fringe Festival, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
